Monday Listicles

Hi everybody!

I am so excited about this week. What a fun listicle to write. I have struggled with my name every since I left home. Because it is spelled Staša and that letter is not used widely I have been called the most bizarre versions. But I like it and I wouldn’t want to be called anything else. Not that I hear my name often. Most of us ladies turn into wives and moms and never get called our names again anyway, right?

Lets see what you would choose for yourself! And thank you Coletta for a great listicle idea this week.

Next week:

10 guilty pleasures ( Chosen by Phoebe ).

Make a list, check it twice, link it up. Read others. Have fun!

10 NAMES I WOULD HAVE GIVEN MYSELF

1. If I could have chosen my own name in Slovenian:

Zarja. (pronounced Zaria)
Meaning dawn.

2. If I was Muslim:

Aisha.
Meaning full of life.

3. If I was Jewish:

Yeal.
Mountain goat.

4. If I was Native American:

Dyani.
Meaning deer.

5. If I was a fabulous female spy:

Nikita.
Meaning unconquerable. Russian.

6. If I was Chinese:

Liu Yang.
Meaning ocean. Also fist Chinese female astronaut.

7. If I was Hindu:

Eila.
Meaning Earth. Hindi.

8. If I was born in an african tribe:

Nala. Meaning successful.

9. If I was Japanese.

Sora. Meaning sky.

10. If I was male:

Hamish. Because I am positive I would have been Scottish with great legs for kilt.

What a great list of names! My favourite is the first one, Zarja. I love your take on the idea too. Staša is a cool name, but I can see how it might be frustrating if you lived in a country that doesn’t use the š. My husband’s family lost their umlaut when they came here. They were Kühn in Germany, but became Kuehn when they emigrated to Canada. Pronunciation of the name varies widely too, since that ü sound doesn’t exist in English.

Looking forward to visiting all the other name lists this week–I love this topic!

That is so very true about us becoming “Mom” and “honey” and we can forget the sound of our own name…

Love this take on the names list! I only added one where I looked up its origin- Ciara (KEEra) from Ireland.

    :)
    Have a great week!!

I do love your name, but Nala is very pretty too. I had a rough time with this list, but like the direction you took. Very clever.

“Nikita” is a great name. I love Stasha too. I was surprised how hard it was for me to come up with names I’d like to have.

I love your list! I love how much thought you put into each name. I think that was the problem with my list, I didn’t have enough brain cells this morning to contemplate actual names!

Eila is such a beautiful name! My parents were going to name me Kiris before they decided on Ashlee. Then they thought about kids teasing me and calling me “Kiris the virus” and decided to go with a more common name, but still wanted something unique about it (thank you mom for that). But there are a million Ashle(y, e, igh)’s in the world and every time I hear someone say actually, I turn because I think they called my name.

[…] I have a boy name. Don’t get me wrong, there are girl Corey’s out there… But the e in my name, implies boy. I also have my father’s middle name, Lee. Again, not the way most girls would spell it, Leigh. Put those two together and the name looks like a solid boy name. In 6th grade, I was put in the boys gym class. I love that on almost every job interview I’ve ever had, they did not expect a girl to walk thru the door. Who knows, it may have even helped me get that interview from time to time. I actually love that look of people’s faces when they find out I’m Corey. I love my name. In fact, I’ve never thought about having a different one. That’s why it was such a fun idea for today’s Monday Listicles. Join the fun here… […]
