Who said games are for kids?
It started with a long red light and a yellow VW beetle. I took a photo and shared it on Instagr.am. Two of my bloggy friends said they liked the Punchbug game and a challenge was set. Jessica @goaliej54, Liz @Lizs_b and I will be snapping bugs and tallying up at the end of the year. It is East coast VS Australia VS West coast. Kind of like rugby on ice skates and horseback, but with bugs…
Every time I leave the house I am on the lookout for a bug. I stop on the side of the road to take photos of them, I scan parking lots at the store and library, I have my son trained to stare out of Starbucks and shout Punchbug. Best of all I see bugs driving by Liz while she is traveling around Brisbane and Jessica’s finds as she is commuting in Rhode Island. And nobody actually punches me!
I have learned that we have an incredible amount of bugs on the roads of our little island. Either that or the same ten bugs drive around the same time I am dropping of Little J at preschool.
I have learned that even as an adult little silly things can brighten up your day. Games are fun at any age. Even more so when you are not in it to win it.
I have learned that I can commit to a project. I just wish I was as passionate about updating my page on Facebook and writing a major contract that I have been delaying for weeks. Or taxes…
If you are on Instagr.am join us. When you see a bug, snap it. Tag the three of us @lizs_b , @goaliej54 and @northwestmommy and hashtag #punchbug so we can give you two thumbs up. It is good to be childish sometimes. Trust me!

I don’t know if this is a California thing, but we always called it “Slug Bug”. And here’s a tidbit about me….my first boyfriend drove a bug…white with dark tinted windows. :0
Great pictures and a fun game to play with blog friends!

You are on it for this game. You even spot the very far away bugs.

Oh WOW! This post brought a huge smile to my face!! I was talking with my family (who scour the roads with me when we’re out) and saying I will put up a post on our Punchbug game when the internet issues are sorted at our new place. You beat me to it… Good on you, Stasha!! Love this. I just might post anyway. It’s been so much fun getting to know you through your blog and through Instagram. I love & look forward to seeing a little of your world each day and sharing mine with you. The next best thing would be sitting on your porch for hours over numerous cups of tea and even a phot session or two. I am so blessed to have discovered you through the blogging world (my sister-in-law, SarahSB over at Faith Hope & a whole lotta Love) can be thanked for that!
Have an awesome week!
(on my gosh… my blog has been deleted somehow!!! I am devastated…)

I cannot wait to see your post!!! I am sure your blog is just having a bad day

I got an answer on the forum. Apparently it takes 48 hours for a blog to be reinstated after verification.
Here’s hoping that’s all it is. I’ll be lost without blogging. Looks like I’ll have to ramp up the Instagramming!!

I hope so too!! This should never have happened to begin with. They better send you a box of chocolate to apologize.

No apology, and no box of chocolates yet!! 😉

You are SO right – a good game is the best when you aren’t in it to win it.

That’s a fun twist! We do the slug buggy/punch buggy game too. My husband and stepson turned me on to it. We also do the Padiddle game but with a kiss- not a punch
Kinda corny but sweet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padiddle

This is such an awesome idea! I wish I had instagram just for this game! I love silly. Silly is the best thing ever.

Hooray for Punchbugs! I have had some bad luck finding them lately (ones not traveling on the opposite side of the road while I am driving, at least) but it’s definitely a fun game.

That’s great that you’ve got the son scouting out opportunities for you…you don’t sound competitive at all
I’m clueless as to instgram, but I will look into it! Because I want to throw out a real challenge! If there are any others out there anywhere who are car-free (and yes, carefree too! No insurance, no $75 fill-ups, and no traffic jams!! But plenty of opportunities to look for bugs!) I had a ’61 VW when my son was an infant, and I used to drive him around without a car seat!! We didn’t have them then!! ( Or seat belts for that matter!) But he survived! So I will be on the lookout for bugs from the bus/train/trolley!!
