Blogging troubles

I feel like the time has come for me to come clean.

Blogging is hard. Not because I run out of things to say and photos to post. Not because it is an enormous time suck that takes most of my evenings, day after day. Not because it is the least paid job in the world. Which it is!

Blogging will connect you. All of the sudden you will have hundreds of friends who are talented and share their lives with brilliant posts that are well worth visiting. You will read, laugh, ponder, comment. You will look forward to checking their blogs. Through them you will meet others…

And most of these new found friends will host a link up. A great one too. To share your content. To inspire you to write about an interesting topic, to give you the opportunity to enter a writing or photography challenge, to help you with a prompt when you are low on ideas, to make it simple for you to put together a post when you are running out of time, to share your favorite joke, recipe, shoes, memory, pins…

This is why I find blogging hard. I want to play along. I DO! I see a great link up and think “I must remember to participate”. But with my Monday Listicles I burn out. And I am sorry. Not linking to my friends memes gives me that awful feeling, like when my son nags me to play hungry hippos right in the middle of me draining pasta from the hot pot. I want to, but we also have to eat.

I sat down to write about some of the posts I enjoyed reading in January. As I started looking around, copying and pasting I realized I will not be going to bed before midnight yet again. That I will feel like rubbish for not including everyone I want to.

So please forgive me. Know that I read your blogs. That I comment on maybe half of the ones I read. That I enjoy spending time in your company, reading about your life. That sometimes when you share something I can relate to it helps me thorough a rough day. That I find myself often thinking about stories I read or planning to take a photo you inspired me to.

These are some of the link ups I would join every week if it had a hundred days :

I wish there really were 100 days in a week, and 100 hours in a day! Balance is more important than any blog meme…and I really mean that! And everyone understands, because we’re all in the same situation. Some weeks I stay ahead of everything, or at least I stay caught up…other weeks I drown. And that’s when I have to “mark all as read” or not even turn on the computer. It’s OK!

I love so many of those meme’s. I too find it hard to link up to all of them and I also want to save some of my posts for just me.
You make a great point.. you also run Monday Listicles which takes up a fair bit of your time!

Oh, I do hear you! I wish I could participate in all of them too. And thanks so much for including me in your wish list! But I am above all else, a realist. I know I cannot possibly do it all….thus, I instinctively know that most others cannot also. So I hope that people never feel pressured to participate, or guilty about not participating. It’s supposed to be fun!
I think of Blog World kinda like it’s “Cheers”, the bar where everyone knows your name and are just happy to see you whenever you can drop by :)

Hey…do you want on your tombstone for it to say “She was blogger who participated in everyone’s link ups”? Or do you want it to say “She did all she could, the best she could, and enjoyed it all?” You do what you can :)

Blogging is hard. I’ve written one post this week – the Monday Listicles. Had the topic not clicked with me, I probably wouldn’t have written all week. Life gets in the way.
I stayed up late tonight, in hopes of finishing a draft I started several days ago. Nope. Instead I got caught up on all the blogs I follow.

I like the Cheers analogy, too. I’ll be Norm. (smile)

    A big hug.

I totally understand the feeling. I have almost no time to even read posts lately. In my dreams would be to host a link, in my dreams. I am lucky if I get to read one blog let alone commenting.

I feel the same way, and I am terrible about doing things halfway, so if I don’t have hours to spend on blogging on any given night I tend to do nothing. I need to get better about that, even if I can’t play along with all the great memes out there!

There are many good memes out there. And only 7 days a week, and who writes 7 days a week?

I try to just link up WHEN I can, and try not to feel bad about the others. And hope that people understand. And people do!

I think you just made my head explode. I just sat down (with a pen and paper. gasp!) to make a list of all the linkups/memes. I feel like there are so many great ones and I have such a hard time keeping track of when to link up and then they pass and I’m all, “Craaaaappp!”

Time to get organized, I decided. Thus my list. And then I went to your blog, because I remembered seeing a badge/button thingy for a linky and I wanted to click on it to go to the blog host to find out what day they host the meme (phew!) And then I see this post. It’s like you READ MY MIND.

Freaky, yes? I think I’m just going to favorite this page. Although, it was so much fun to write with pen and paper again…

I know what you mean. It’s exciting and frustrating at the same time, to know all of these great bloggers and means of “connecting” to sources of readership. And yet, we don’t have time to get it all done. Remember that scene in Leaving Las Vegas where he’s hurling liquor bottles in his cart? When I survey the blogging universe, it makes me feel overwhelmed, like an alcoholic in a liquor store.

I completely agree, there are so many great linkups and I too feel bad when I’m unable to join. I’m starting to realize that hosting my own linkup is more work than I thought it would be – but it also forces me to read other posts by some of my favourite bloggers, when I would otherwise not be able to find the time. Please don’t ever feel obligated to link up (I’ll be visiting your blog regularly anyways!), and thanks so much for showing some love for my linky :)

I’m with Ado. There was no real need to write this post. We know, we know there’s not enough time in the day for all these linkups, no matter the awesomeness of yeah write.

I give you so much credit for helping get mine off the ground, it would be weird for you to suddenly show up and start linking. Like if Barbra Streisand started auditioning for Broadway. Which would be awesome because it’s Broadway, but it’s Barbra!

Lose the guilt. Thanks for the shout out. Have a good weekend.

You are loved regardless. We all have lives outside of the white rectangle with a flashing apple on the cover. Some days there is more time, some weeks there is none. We just ALWAYS have to remind ourselves why we do this… hopefully the answer is for ourselves and to meet great people we never would have encountered. There are no expectations except those you set for yourself.

wow. I thought it was just me. But I guess that’s what this online thing is all about: it’s NEVER just “only me.” It’s only me and about forty zillion other people. We love & appreciate the Monday list and that gives you a free pass for pretty much everything else. As Erica said, lose the guilt. I mean, after all: we’re not getting paid for this (most of us, anyway) – so we shouldn’t have to suffer for it as if we were, right?

I so know what you mean. I am in the same boat.. I read the posts, but don’t comment as much as I know I should. I want to leave more thoughtful comments beyond the “how nice” or “that’s awesome” and then real life beckons while I’m in the middle of reading… and then I forget… :(

Oh, we forgive you, Stasha, because we are all in the same boat. If I could compress everything you said into a sentence or two, I’d have it printed on a button and tattoo it on my forehead. Thanks for mentioning my linkup, and thanks for participating this past month. I know how busy you are. You don’t just host a linkup, you visit and tweet all of the links. That’s a lot of work and why it is so successful.

I love this because it’s just so true. And honest. We can’t do it all; we’ve got to do the best we can and choose the things that work for us, when they work for us. We’ve got to stop feeling bad. What helps me is to imagine that the people whose blogs I want to comment on or the link ups I want to participate in would be much happier to know that I am not stressed over not participating and that I am doing all I can handling life outside of my blog. When I believe that they believe that, I feel better.

I don’t have a linky for you to join, but sometimes I am able to join up with your wonderful Monday Listicles. Sometimes. I know you understand that I can’t do it every week. Work. School. Writing my books. Health. So many variables. I love all my bloggy friends, though. I just prefer free-handing in lieu of linky’s. Well, except for Monday Listicles. That really appeals for my inner need to organize my thoughts. LOLOL So please forgive me for my lack of being a joiner, but please do come and visit my place when you can. I love your input. HUGSSS

We just have to try not to feel guilty or beat ourselves up over it. Because blogging about life shouldn’t overshadow the living of said life. AND it’s supposed to be fun and not stressful.
