Monday Listicles

Hi.

How are you? How was your week? Your weekend? What made you happy today? Yesterday?

Hope you answered to all those without having to think about it. One of the things that made me happy and giggle loads was reading your listicles. The fictional facts about you were the bomb and I was surprised to see how many of you know you Bond stuff!! Thank you Anja for a super duper fun topic!

On the other hand, hope that this week’s topic, suggested by Kerstin gave you some food for thought and a reason to be happy too. I look forward to reading about your 10 THINGS I LEARNED IN 2012. I started running this year and I wrote about ten things I learned about that. Opinion expressed here are my own and written for the sole purpose of entertainment. Before beginning any exercise program, please consult a physician or other qualified health care provider. Specially if he is gorgeous like the surgeon that operated on my knee.

Where was I?

Next week! I have gotten so many awesome ideas from you all about what to write our list on. To be fair, I will queue them up in the next few months, starting with Jessica:

And now, tell me what you learned this year!

Make a list, check it twice, link it up. Read others. Have fun!

10 THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT RUNNING

1. I finally realized why running is number one choice of exercise among moms.

2. No matter how happy you feel, do not laugh during your run. Bugs taste awful and you will inhale many.

3. When starting off you will notice your four year old and the seventy year old lady down the street can both run faster and longer then you.

4. No matter how amazing this video makes it look, running in the rain is…running in the rain.

5. Also related: If you live in Pacific Northwest you either learn to love running in the rain or you give up running.

6. Apps are your best friend. They track your runs, help you plan them, achieve your goals, motivate you to push yourself and have a cute guy tell you how awesome you are.

7. Like all hobbies, starting to run gives you a great excuse to shop for new gear.

8. Avoid watching ‘Criminal minds’ and the likes, cause most females in these shows are attacked and killed while running in the park.

9. World looks even more amazing when you are running by.

10. I have never seen a person who is not happy after a run. Just look at Jen, Clarinda, Michelle and Monica!

What advice do you have for me to get better at running?

The worst mistake of them all

Most of you visiting my blog probably think I am amazing and can do no wrong.

I suppose I am. But occasionally I make mistakes. Some come from love and overenthusiasm. Like watering my cacti to their early grave. Some mistakes happen because I don’t think before I speak. Like telling my friend the other day while waiting for Yoga class to begin that I cannot believe there are people out there who pay a hundred bucks for yoga pants from a certain famous brand. Only to realize the other 7 ladies were wearing them. And then I was the only one who lost balance during a posture, proving that wearing lemon pants helps being a better tree.

There are times though that I am asked to do something and I know it is a bad idea. I struggle with it. Toss and turn at night and eat a pint of ice cream to help me clear my mind. But ultimately my conscience tells me to just do it. No, I am not talking about bake sale, that I would say no to easily. I am talking about Facebook.

You see I have a younger cousin. My family is near extinct and a few cousins back home is all I have. We are close enough to know each other’s birthdays without Facebook reminders and joke about the days gone by at family reunions, but we are not like brothers and sisters. Now my youngest cousin is a teen. What can I say, my aunt was hit by a baby bug as her nest emptied. He is a lovely, bright young boy and the last time I saw him he was visiting us for a few weeks in the summer and he was everything I hopped my son to be when he is 10.

Then a year later he send me a request to be my friend on Facebook. I will not preach about how you are suppose to be 16 and over to join social media and all that. But I did feel awkward about having such a young kid read my feed. The last thing I wanted was to worry about my statements being politically correct and censor my complaints to be G rated ( cause you just cannot talk about parking in Walmart and be suitable for all audiences, can you?) .

But blood is thicker then water and who am I to cut my family ties. So I clicked confirmed. And in the past few years I have learned to live with the fact I am related to a Justin Bieber lookalike who has thousand of friends, changes relationship statues daily and thinks that spelling is a suggestion not a rule.

Am I bitter that his requests to ‘like this status and I will tell you what color are my socks’ dominate my feed? Sure. Am I ashamed that I know more trivia about him then his parents? YES!

But you know what is the worst thing ever? His post the other day used a word that would be bleeped out in a R rated movie! I had to wash out my eyeballs with bleach and I have been a nervous reck ever since, upping my ice cream intake to two pints!

So I am hear to tell you: whatever you do, please do not accept friend requests from 16 and under’s. Because it seems that perfectly normal kids, straight A students wearing matching socks, that live among us turn into some bizarre alter ego young adults in the parallel universe called Facebook. And it ain’t pretty!

Monday Listicles

Hello my sweet friends and list lovers.

I am so glad you are back to link your lists 10 THINGS JAMES BOND OR ANY SECRET AGENT OR 10 FICTIONAL FACTS ABOUT YOU ( BUT ONE MUST BE TRUE AND WE WILL TRY TO GUESS IT!). I look forward to reading them, laughing and enjoying myself as I do! I look forward to fun times we spend together as we list sometimes serious, sometimes funny, always great to read things!

Thank you Anja for inspiring us with a great topic this week. I had Little J tell me ten things about his favorite secret agent Finn McMissile (from Cars 2, his current obsession) and I laughed as I was jotting them down. Number one being ‘He is blue.’ We never quite made it to ten. Then I wrote a list of 10 misconceptions people have about me, such as me having an accent meaning I am not American. I tried being funny, but I just could not. Not today.

We went to the Veterans Day parade yesterday. It was a beautiful, sunny, crisp autumn day. We saw friends we haven’t seen in a while, walked around, took pictures, looked at fire engines. Jets flew over and the parade begun. Our fire department, police officers, Marine Color Guard, Navy Color Guard, Veterans of WW2, Vietnam and recent conflicts, survivors of Pearl harbor, their spouses, Navy Wives, retired military personnel, our 50 state flags and our young ROTC club all marched by. And then volunteers from our Navy base carried banners of Washington men and women fallen in combat. And I cried the whole parade.

I have never not followed the listicle prompt. I love all the topics we write about and I love this one just as much. But for once forgive me if I leave my list blank. I was raised by my grandfather who served honorably all his life. He always told me about sacrifices Yugoslavians made during WW2 fighting for our freedom. I grew up surrounded by conflict and baffled how quickly people have forgotten how terrible war is. I am a Navy wife and fortunate that my Veteran is home tonight. But I will never forget and I urge you not too either.

Please remember why 11th of November is Veterans day.

Now go,
