Monday Listicles

What a great week this was for Monday Listicles.

We are getting more and more entries and thanks to Sara and her choice of theme I got to take a peek into your favorite places. I was surprised to see your beds on almost every list. It truly is the little things in life.

I cannot wait to see what Deborah has in store for us next week. As you all know: your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find her blog and the topic she would like us to write our next list about. To help you out a bit here are some facts on @mannahattamamma : she is a NY professor, currently living in the desert overlooking Arabian sea. When faced with baking she can be heard saying brilliant things like: “Frosting is Spanx for cakes”. Something tells me next week we will have fun with our lists.

This week I had a master plan. I was going to take amazing photos on our visit to Woodland Park Zoo, then let Little J pick his 10 favorite animals. But I am here to tell you crowds, wandering son and super sunny day are not the best conditions for picture taking. So I give you the list of 10 animals I kind of managed to snap. They don’t come close to the beauty of this Zoo.

I think you should give it a go and enter the giveaway for family tickets to Woodland Park Zoo. Details are in the above link and I promise you that it might not be a super fancy prize worth hundreds of dollars, but the memories you will make are priceless! If you are too far to visit our local Zoo you can still enter and surprise somebody with your winnings.

OK, enough said!

Make a list, check it twice, link it up. Read others. Have fun!

They are my favorite animal.

Little J said feeding Watoto, a 42 year old female African elephant, was his favorite part of the visit.

You can watch antics of Keema and Denali live 24 hours a day on WEBCAM.

Lazy snakes are a breeze to photograph.

I stopped to take some pictures just before we left the Zoo and this one was more then willing to pose.

I love apes, such characters.

They were all running around but this one was looking at me for ages.

What a poser this eagle was.

Little J and I read a book about why they are pink and he remembered!

I vote this the cutest behind in Woodland Park Zoo.

I am linking this weeks list to Chic Homeschool Mama Monday Rewind. Because it makes sense.

To be honest, most of them were napping. But they look happy at this Zoo, they seem to live in very natural habitats and enjoy having company. My husband and I had a great time and Little J loved climbing all the rocks and kid stuff. We spend the whole day and could have spend there even longer.
I would think snakes make good pets, no brushing or walking. Although feeding I would find hard to swallow.

  1. Wow, Stasha, these photos blew me away! The zoo should have you on the photography staff. I can’t believe you managed to take these with your son with you. Even if I were kid-free, it would probably take me a week to come a little close to what you achieved with these photos. They really remind me of photos I’ve seen in National Geographic, they are that good! This makes me want to go to the zoo, or back to the rain forest πŸ™‚ I love giraffes. They are my favorite zoo animal, although owls are my overall favorite animal. The snake photo is amazing and you got so close to the penguin! Your son must love looking at these images with you! He’s learning to have an artist’s eye from you!

Thank you so much Kim. I like owls too! Was trying to take a picture of the giant Gray one but as soon as it saw the camera it turned it’s head. And I wasn’t using a flash! They just know ha? But I loved how it’s neck went around 180 degrees.
Thank you for a lovely list Kim, I am still in cloud number 9. Great to be featured on BLogHer too, well deserved!

I haven’t ever been, but will take the little guy there on one of my visits for sure. We get to the Calgary zoo a few times a year. I think we’re do for at least one more visit before the snow flies.

Thank you. The elephant has beautiful eyes, doesn’t she? Yep, meerkats are normally so active but this one was posing forever. Bit of a show off I guess…

Their diet makes them turn pink. So if you eat lots of shrimp yu might get a bit pinkish too πŸ™‚ And thank you for the compliment. Lucky for me, the windows in displays at Woodland Park Zoo are kept very clean…

There are two hippos. They were just lounging in the water and this one decided to go sunbathing. So cute, when it stepped out the water level of water at the pond lowered. They are adorable, but not very elegant πŸ˜‰

  2. Ah, a snake!!!

I swear I remember seeing something several weeks ago that any list could link up? Did I make that up or am I totally breaking your rules?

Stasha, these pictures are fabulous! Looking at the photo of the snake, I immediately thought of the children’s book Verdi.(janell cannon who also wrote stellaluna).
I do love that hippo hiney too!

Thank you Dominique. I am rather infamous for typos. Sorry.
Love your list. Made my heart fill with joy this morning. And miss Singapore; roller blading at ECP was always my favorite thing.
Do you go to the Zoo often? are pigmy hippos still there?

The Meerkat and the Eagle are adorable! But of course, the Elephant is my favorite shot because it’s my favorite animal! By the way, you just made me miss the zoo. Maybe i’ll make it be our first homeschool field trip this year…

  6. I really, really love these pictures, especially the elephant! I’m always doing close-ups of my kids, but I didn’t really see how awesome that would be with an animal, too! Especially one with such interesting details!
