Giving thanks

Every day I am thankful for

my family. For our health and happiness. For my son’s smile and his spirit. For Husband’s kindness and sacrifices. For my dog’s obedience and devotion. For my horse’s patience and beauty. For our home and our island. For moody weather and ocean breeze. For fluffy clouds and soaring eagles. For comfy pillows and hot showers. For the smell and taste of coffee. For the taste and smell of chocolate.

For my friends and neighbors. For Simmy Sim. For family far and even farther. For my readers and my online friends. For everyone who joins Monday Listicles and reads others. For all who choose me to capture their moments. For my camera and my talent.

For being loved. For being well. For being slobbered on. For being challenged. For being silly. For laughing so much and crying so little. For having so much to be thankful for.

Today I am also thankful for being my own boss and giving myself time off for Thanksgiving.

Wishing you much to be thankful for, today and every day.

Preserving memories

Photography is my passion.

Ever since I can remember I have been trigger happy. By taking a photograph I believe to have somehow preserve the moment. I spend a lot of my time looking at photographs on my computer, walls of my home and albums. I will even go as far as to confess I have been known to click through my mobile uploads on social media sites.

But photographs in my life have had it’s drama too. In 2007, during our move to England, all my pictures were lost. We had 44 boxes packed and shipped overseas. 43 made it and the only one never to be found contained all my photos before I met my husband, my education certificates, work resumes and references. I was five months pregnant at the time and cried for days, mourning the lost of my printed memories.

As if that was not terrible enough, last year my laptop crashed and all the images I had of my son with it. Luckily we were able to retrieve them, but needless to say I have been backing up double every image I have since. Which is a little over 40000 and counting.

Because of all this I have been looking for a way to preserve my images remotely. When I signed up with Live On I was hoping to find a way to save photos. I was surprised to find this site to be so much more. In no time I created videos by uploading my photos, adding music and captions and letting the site do it’s magic. It also assisted me by suggesting meaningful facts to write, milestones to document and easy ways to share. Not only can I edit my own timeline, but I can create one for my son. Which to me is like scrapbooking for a computer addict.

The idea behind building the tribe and connecting with friends and family on the site and sharing photos is wonderful. My loved ones are scattered all over the world and it would be nice if I could share our important events so easily. But beyond it all, the promise that all my images will be preserved for decades is for me LiveOn’s biggest appeal. I am debating whether to pay for an upgrade and have them stored forever. Imagine generations from now my son’s children’s children receiving a digital capsule containing the story of my family!

For now, I will continue creating my memories on Live On’s site and practice perfecting them. If you are curious how, here is a short video I created in less then 5 minutes. CLICK HERE to view. And if like me, you are considering organizing photos and sending them to family as presents this Christmas I am glad to share this code that will award you 20% off on LiveOn Rewind :
